| Mike Skinner aks The Streets legt mit Everything Is Borrowed sein inzwischen viertes Album vor und schon das Artwork signalisiert, dass es diesmal weniger um die Persona Mike Skinner und Alltagsbeobachtungen und drogeninduzierte Ausnahmezustände geht. Setzte sich Skinner bei den anderen Alben auch immer wieder beim Artwork in Szene wird diesmal alles menschliche Leben zugunsten einer überwältigenden, aber doch einsamen Naturinszenierung aus den Bildern ausgeschlossen, einzig beim mit dem Finger in den Sand geschriebenen Tracklisting taucht der Faktor Mensch auf. Die Musik schließt an dieses Artwork an, Mike Skinners Betrachtung der Welt wendet sich den „größeren“, nachdenklicheren, philosophischen Themen, wie dem Klima und dem „Älterwerden“ zu. The Streets wären allerdings nicht The Streets wenn dabei jetzt eine unerträgliche moralinsauere Angelegenheit herauskommen würde, sondern kommt nachdenklich amüsant verpackt - okay, manchmal vielleicht ein wenig naiv - daher. Aber wir reden hier schließlich über Popmusik und solange diese bestimmt wird von Schwanz- und Tittenbeschau, von völlig unerträglicher Oberflächlichkeit und uns die Medien mit immer dämlicheren Formaten das Leben „beibringen“ wollen, mache ich mir doch lieber Gedanken über den Way of the Dodo…. Musikalisch kommt Everything Is Borrowed noch eine Spur geschmeidiger als The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Linving aus den Boxen. Mike Skinner scheint eine Menge Oldschool-House während der Produktion gehört zu haben, das schlägt sich sowohl in der Soundästhetik wie auch manchmal in den Beats nieder und es wird noch mehr „richtig“ gesungen – was ist das überhaupt. In meinen Augen ist Everything Is Borrowed eine großartige Platte geworden und Mike Skinner ist eben auch über die Jahre seit Original Pirate Material etwas älter geworden und damit verschiebt sich ein bisschen der Fokus und der Blick auf die Welt. |
